The first time we saw an Avocet, we were intrigued by its upturned bill and feeding behaviour. The more we knew about the bird, the fascinating it became.
The soul has illusions as the bird has wings: it is supported by them.
The pied avocet is a large black and white wader in the avocet and stilt family, Recurvirostridae. They breed in temperate Europe and across the Palearctic to Central Asia and the Russian Far East. A migratory species, it spends most winter in Africa or southern Asia. A few remains to winter in the mildest parts of their range, such as southern Spain and southern England. The pied avocet is one of the species to which the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA) applies.
